Attachment & Trauma

Developmental-, and/or shock trauma from insecure human bonding or contact are stored in the autonomous nervous system as circulating arousal or excitement: The musculature holds on tight, learns to stay strong to function and grows stiff to finally freeze with feelings detached. The body psychotherapy process allows to slowly and carefully re-experience the original emotional traumatic state and let it melt. Rosen Method's holding touch increases the level of the bonding hormone oxytocin in the blood. Thus providing safety and, maybe for the first time, trusting oneself or rediscover confidence.

Attachment types

Secure Attachment

Early childhood is the time to develop securely felt bonding, mostly between child and parents or other attachment creatures. It can be a life long ressource for safety, serves to regulate threat and appropriate handling of closeness and distance. Secure attachment remains existential for human survival into adulthood.

Insecure Attachment

The development of research in the 20th century has recognized different insecure types of attachment in the psychobiology of childhood development. The outcome is the internationally acknowledged attachment theory.
The imprinting acts into adulthood - here is a brief outline 1 :

  • Insecure anxious-resistent attachment

This attachment type experiences its surroundings with high vigilance.
The child is very attentive, it approaches contact with hesitance. It calms not easily.

  • Insecure avoidant-dismissive attachment

These children are difficult to comfort. They might avoid touch, and otherwise do not show signs of distress under threat. At the same time, they experience high emotional arousal states with active suppression.

  • Disorganized-disoriented attachment

This attachment type consoles itself for instance by rocking the body, it may stare into blank space and seems to be frozen. Those are signs of existentially felt danger or consistent threat from an abusive environment.

Developmental Disturbance

Praenatal growth and postnatal development runs in individual & transgenerational strands.
Multiplex factors can disturb the development at different points in time and from manifold periods.

Screaming Babies

Emotional help for parents & child after birth stress before or after delivery - in my practice.

Humans can be born richly gifted or highly skilled with exceptional abilities. Such capacities can get lost or been taken away, depending on attachment and trauma. Most of all, emotional self-awareness needs to be rediscovered and regained.
